Acute Viral Hepatitis (Infectious and Serum Hepatitis)
SYMPTOMS usually begin with nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, fever, hives
and joint pains. Other symptoms may occur after 3 to 10 days. These symptoms
are enlarged, tender liver, jaundice, dark urine and enlarged spleen.
CAUSES. Virus type A is spread from person to person via fecally
contaminated food and water. Type B virus is spread via contaminated
hypodermic needles and transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products.
TREATMENT. Acute hepatitis usually clears itself within 6 to 12 weeks
.Special treatment should not be required.
